Starting in 2008 or so, all firearms manufactured in Germany began bearing a "DE" marking that is simply the two-letter ISO country code for Germany. This is not specific to Carl Walther firearms, and the same country code can be found on Heckler & Koch and Sig-Sauer firearms.
