What automatic safety mechanisms are included in the Sig Pro?

Sig Pros have the same four automatic safety mechanisms found in the Sig Classics, as follows:

  • Patented automatic firing pin lock (frees the firing pin to strike the primer only when the trigger is squeezed)
  • Decocking lever (lets the shooter safely lower the cocked hammer to the safety intercept notch without having to thumb the hammer down while squeezing the trigger, which can result in an accidental discharge)
  • Safety intercept notch (the hammer is stopped and held to keep it from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is squeezed)
  • Trigger bar disconnector (prevents the gun from firing if the slide is not fully in battery)

Sig Pros, like Sig Classics, also incorporate three additional safety features: a slide that must be locked open before disassembly, a hammer reset spring, and a smooth, long double-action trigger pull. All these features combine to make the Sig Pro one of the safest and simplest semi-automatic pistols to operate. No external safety lever is required since all these features ensure that the pistol will not fire unless the shooter deliberately squeezes the trigger.
