Can I convert an SP 2340 to 9mm?

Important Note: Changing calibers (beyond the use of the factory .40 Auto or .357 Sig barrels in the SP 2340) or otherwise using aftermarket barrels in your Sig Pro is not endorsed by J.P. Sauer & Son (Germany) or SIGARMS (US), and will thus void your warranty.

An SP 2009 barrel will not fit nor function in an SP 2340. The following are some measurements taken from Sig Pro barrels:

  • Barrel tube diameter: 0.5510 inches for both SP 2009 and SP 2340
  • Barrel hood width (extends to the breech face): 0.4080 inches for SP 2009 versus 0.4375 inches for SP 2340

While the barrel tubes share the same diameter, the rear of the SP 2009 barrel hood is thus too narrow to function in the SP 2340's breechface.

Bar-Sto, however, is now manufacturing 9mm conversion barrels that will fit the Sig Pro SP 2340. That is, the external dimensions of the conversion barrel are identical to those of the SP 2340 barrel, but it's chambered for 9mm. The barrel change is all that is necessary to shoot 9mm. The slide, frame, recoil assembly, and magazines stay the same. The following are four photos of an actual Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel for the Sig Pro SP 2340, shown next to factory Sig Pro SP 2340 .40 Auto and .357 Sig barrels (the factory .40 Auto barrel is in the middle), along with two photos of one of these barrels installed into a Sig Pro SP 2340:

EFK Fire Dragon is now producing a 9mm conversion barrels for the SP 2340.

Note that a ten-round SP 2340 magazine holds twelve rounds of 9mm, and functions well (see FAQ III-8).

Note that this also applies to the SP 2022 chambered in .40 Auto or .357 Sig, specifically that it can be converted to 9mm by using the same conversion barrel.
