What is the Sig Pro? And, how does it differ from the Sig Classic?

The Sig Pro, put simply, is SIGARMS' first entry into the polymer-framed pistol world. Although the Sig Pro is considered a polymer-frame pistol, it doesn't feel like a polymer-frame pistol, such as its trigger feel and the fact that it is hammer-fired (as opposed to striker-fired like most polymer-frame pistols, with the HK USP being an exception). This gives consumers all the benefits of a polymer-frame pistol—reduced weight, increased durability, and better corrosion resistance—without taking away the benefits of the Sig Classics.

The following are the available calibers, dimensions, and weights of the five Sig Pro models that have been in production, also indicating the month and year of introduction:

All of the engineering that went into the Sig Classic pistols—the P220, P225, P226, P228, P229, P239, and P245—is apparent in the Sig Pro pistols. The main difference between the Sig Pro and Sig Classic pistols is the polymer frame in the former, and the alloy (or steel, in some cases) frame of the latter. The polymer frame allows the Sig Pro to be sold for less than the Sig Classic. The internal safeties and general mechanics are the same.
